NaBloPoMo Post #16 - Memory

I volunteered at Saint Agnes hospital as a candy striper (that's "stripe-er", not "strip-er", thankyouverymuch!) and had access to a few perks they had set up for employees and volunteers. The best was a Disney discount club, through which we booked a vacation when I was 15. Three nights in the Disneyland Hotel, three-day passes to Disneyland, and three excited people - me, Mom, and Grandma.

The highlight of the trip, for me at least, was taking Grandma on Star Tours. It was fairly new, so we were in line for a while. Mom and I would look at each other nervously when we passed the mandatory warning signs explaining that this ride simulated a turbulent trip through space in which disembowelment was likely and riders could expect to be folded, spindled, and mutilated, yadda yadda etc. etc. etc. Would this be too much for her? Would she be hurt, or hate us as she hurtled through space toward her doom doom doom DOOM? We exchanged a last look as we strapped in - too late to back out now.

Grandma cackled and screamed with delight through the whole ride, and exited laughing and wiping away tears.

I miss you, Grandma. Happy birthday last Saturday.

Oh, Star Tours is wonderful (from this grandma's point of view). Of course, I love almost anything Disney, and can't wait until my own granddaughter is old enough to go. Congrats on 16 days in a row of NaBloPoMo!
